The wreck painting was used in the 1960s by UK satrical magazine "Private Eye" (the joke being, one of the drowing men says to another: "That's the last time I book a Thompsons holiday ... ") It's a very common image. The photo of Neptune on the cover, however, would have been only about 1 year old at the time. I think it came from Voyager 2. John

"Although baroque tactics abound, Géricault's use of shock tactics, stunning the viewer's sensibilities, amounted to something new - a new tone and intention that distinguished the "high" phase of romanticism."

Rum, Sodomy & The Lash Very similar to the SPACE album cover (as based on the same picture), yet it was done almost 10 years earlier. Funny coincidence.
Firstly it was 4 years before. Rum, Sodomy & The Lash came out in 1986, Space in 1990.
Secondly, it's hardly a co-incidence. Rum, Sodomy & The Lash was a hugely popular LP in the UK. I would imagine that Jimi deliberately stole the idea and re-interpreted it.
cheers
