Free Lecture Series Monday, October 28,
ITALIAN CENTER OF THE WEST The Sister City & County relationship, Torino, Italy Dr. Alessandro A. Galvani Present the Free Lecture Series At our new location with easy access and parking, please make note East Millcreek Library Room A 2266 East Evergreen Ave., East Millcreek 84109 "Gothic Art and the end of the Dark Ages." The Gothic world. Unlike the Renaissance, it is a subject that does not usually captivate the attention, maybe because of what we recall: the Dark Ages, the Inquisition, the Crusades, wars, famine and poverty. But Europe during the Gothic era was a unique environment that is more than its Cathedrals. Take, for instance, Paris, smaller than Ogden, the capitol of a recent kingdom where an abbot was able to create a new artistic style that spread all over the continent through architects, artisans and even friars. And so were cities like Venice, Barcelona, Bologna, Palermo, and London. We will see what these small and quarrelsome countries were like, as we still see today in their monuments, masterpieces, and human characters. Instructor Dr. Alessandro A. Galvani (Doctor in Education) Social historian, instructor at the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (U of U), cultural concierge, alumnus of the University of Bologna, at the ELI University of Utah, at Provincia di Milano (Direzione Centrale Affari Sociali), at Regione Lombardia (Direzione Generale Istruzione), at the European Social Fund.
