Mast Dropping - Crane Day - News

GSL Slip Renters It looks like we have some boats to help drop masts this Sunday. Thank you Bryant and J.R. I also have two boats who want to utilize this service. Mast dropping party will be noon, this Sunday on 'E' dock. I will try to have some chili and bowls ready for participants. If you are planning on dropping your mast during this time on Sunday please let me know. Also, if you are planning on craning out next Saturday, please let me know. I need to know if you are vacating or keeping your slip. I need to know if you are wanting space in secure or unsecure storage. Several people have expressed interest but I have yet to have confirmations. Space is limited. Several people are on the list for crane day yet I only have confirmation of four boats. If you are planning on pulling please email me at dshearer(a)gslyc.org or call me at 801-209-9142. I will bring the smallest crane possible out here. If you are planning on pulling but have not confirmed, the crane may be too small to pull your boat. GSLYC will be hosting the annual Pumpkin Patch regatta tomorrow. Skippers meeting will be at 10:30am with the regatta starting in the back bay at noon. Kids activities start at 3:00pm at the marina pavillion and the pot luck dinner starts at 6:00pm at the marina pavillion. Trick-or-treating for the kids will be at sunset. Please light or decorate your boats if you plan on handing out candy so the kids will know where to go. Lake Level seems to have stabilized and may actually be rising. This is good news since we usually do not stabilize until mid to late November. After this weekend we would like to start clearing the docks for the winter so snow removal will be easier. Year end Statements - 08 Contracts

GSL Slip Renters We are preparing the year end statements. These statements will reflect auto-pays and any payments received by November 5th. Statements will be sent out during the first few weeks of November. Please review them carefuly The following items will also be sent with the statements: a.. Iron Ranger (Fee Station) policy b.. Seasons Greetings letter c.. 2008 Slip and Dry Storage Contracts d.. Autopay forms for 2008 If you intend to rent a slip/dry storage for all or part of the 2008 season you must fill out a new contract. All 2007 contracts AND autopays expire December 31st 2007. Complete your contract and autopay form (optional) as soon as possible. When we receive your new contract we will be sending out your 2008 slip renter package. The slip renter package will include the following items: a.. the 2008 code to the front gate (No, it will not be 8002). b.. New keys to the docks and restrooms c.. 2008 Parking stickers and passes based on the Iron Ranger policy You will only receive the 2008 slip renter package after completing the 2008 contract. Locks to the docks and code to the front gate will change in the first week of January 2008. Starting January 1st the park fees will be enforced on a regular basis. Winterizing the Docks

GSL Slip Renters and Marina Users As you know, the water has been shut off to all the docks, the pump-a-head and the porta potty rinse station. Water will remain on at the restrooms, freezeless faucets at the rinse station and the parking lot, freezeless faucet by Ranger dock. In preparation for winter shoveling we are requesting the cooperation of all our slip renters. This is to make the docks safer and snow removal easier. Following is a list of things we would like help from the marina users by November 4th: a.. Please remove your hoses from the docks. Place them on your boats on take them home. They are a trip hazard and make snow removal dificult. b.. Please remove any power cords not being used. If you are using your power cord please make sure they are of the proper type as per marina policy. Make sure they are not draped in the water. Please make sure they are secure and as non-obstructive as possible (Cords that are not of the proper size or are draped in the water will be tagged and removed). c.. Pleaes remove batteries, spars, grills and other items not being used from the main section of the dock. Please do not store these items on the fingers either. d.. Please remove all dinghies from the main dock section and from the water (unless properly secured in the confines of your own slip. 'K' dockers; please remove all your dinghies from the main dock and from the water at the beginning of the dock. These boats fill with water and then sink causing stress to the dock. SEE NOTE BELOW. e.. Please remove dinghies from the fingers of the dock. If the dinghies are turned upside-down, securely tied to the dock and your slip neighbor does not mind, then these dinghies and kayaks may remain on the slip fingers. Realize though, that this finger will not be shoveled for snow. f.. Make sure your dock lines are prepared for a long windy winter. g.. Make sure your scuppers are cleared of all debris so your boat won't be a sinking hazard. We already have two boats (one on 'I' dock and one on "L" dock) that are taking on water due to clogged scuppers. h.. Make sure your furlers are secured. better yet, If you do not plan on using your boat on a regular basis, you may just want to remove your sails. i.. Make sure your rigging and halyards are secure. NOTE: Many of you plan to use your dinghies for the upcoming Pumkin Patch. Please do so. We just want these dinghies removed from the water and properly secured by the 4th of November. Marina weather station

GSL Slip Renters and Marina Users The cable for the weather station has arrived at the Salt Lake NOAA office. Yet they will not be able to install the cable until next week. The system works great. It was nice to monitor this storm with the new system. I'm just sorry you are not able to access this data yet. Be patient. It is almost done. The cable to the antenna was the wrong cable so the Salt Lake office was not able to received transmitted data from the marina. Thank you Dave Shearer Harbormaster Great Salt Lake Marina

Water to Marina

GSL Slip Renters and Marina Users Due to pending cold temperatures the water has been turned off to the slips and rinse station dock. It will remain off for the winter. Water to the restrooms, parking lot freezeless faucets and the the freezeless faucet at the ranger dock will remain on for the winter. We apologize for the inconvenience. In preparation for winter and snow blowing, please remove your hoses from the docks. They are ano obstruction and a trip hazard when clearing the snow from the docks. GSL Slip Renters and Marina Users. The new NOAA weather station is up and running and working perfectly at the marina. The site is also activated on the internet. But there is a cabling problem here at the marina that is preventing the information from being transmitted to Salt Lake for uploading to the internet. GSL Slip Renters and Marina Users Our weather system (Donated by NOAA) has now been installed. It is also transmitting data. Sometime today you will be able to link into that data. (It won't show for an hour or two because it needs some history before it displays). The link to the Great Salt Lake Marina site is as follows: http://www.findu.com/cgi-bin/wxpage.cgi?call=KF6RAL-6 To take a peak at what it will look like go to the following site: http://www.findu.com/cgi-bin/wxpage.cgi?call=KF6RAL-5 This is the site on the east shore of Bear Lake. Our site will look similar. Within a few days you will be able to access the GSL Marina data through the mesonet map also. That site is: www.wrh.noaa.gov/slc/current/meso.wfrnt.php When you go that site you will just need to drag the mouse over the GSL site for current information. Within a week or two you will be able to access water level data on these sites. It will not update as frequently as the USGS site but it should update at least once a day. GSL Slip Renter and Marina Users NOAA is currently installing and setting up weather equipment at the GSL Marina Office. What this means is that the Great Salt Lake State Marina will be a NOAA site available for viewing on the Mesonet. You will be able to go to the mesonet site and pick up near real-time weather data for the marina from your home or office computer. This information will be available in the VERY VERY near future.
