Glencook-fans / Black Company as TV series
I just read that The Black Company is 'in development' as a TV series. http://deadline.com/2017/04/eliza-dushku-star-the-black-company-series-adapt... I don't know how to feel about this. Eliza Dushku as Lady... I don't know... mr
It might work, if the production company does it right. I’m with you in not knowing how I feel about Dushku. Frankly, I could see Chloe Bennet playing Lady if she was taller.

Shit. That means I'll have to get hooked up. Avoided it since 1975. Hope it's worth the link up. Why not a movie? It's a perfect fit for the big screen. I'm more worried about how they will handle certain scenes. For example, when they discover Darling - will they show or imply what was happening to her when she was rescued? How about showing the men cutting loose when they uncover Whisper's papers? I can't see them having the "heroes" of the company raping the defeated Amazon company. Or some of the other nasty stuff? In short, I fear the evils committed by the company will be whitewashed... And having a big name as The Lady? That strongly implies that she will appear sooner (and more often) in the movies than in the books. That or we will see things that Croaker doesn't, which will be a big departure for the story. Still, overall, I see this as a good thing. It should get more people reading the books, and if they make this show it will put lots of cash in Cook's pocket. Jim Butcher was a best selling urban fantasy writer for years before he got a short running TV show and he credits that show for making him financially secure. Richard
And let's not forget that buried in the story is a publication date for Port of Shadows. I was beginning to think we'd seen the last of new books from Glen. On Mon, Apr 24, 2017 at 4:36 PM, Richard Chilton <rchilton@auracom.com> wrote:

Yes, i was just about to say that the reference to "Port of Shadows" (Book 1.5) is the most exciting piece of news in the piece :) I think Eliza Dushku would kick ass as The Lady :) And it's fitting that she be called the star of the series; I'd say Lady's transformation is the most significant moral growth journey in the series. And it's really neat that she comments on the moral issues as paramount: she gets it :) Stacey On Mon, Apr 24, 2017 at 4:44 PM, Lawrence Jenab <larryjenab@gmail.com> wrote:

Guess my question is who is 'IM Global Television'? They seem to be a newer company, I don't think they have any already distributed tv shows. What distribution channels do they use? I don't think this company produces content its self. http://www.imglobaltv.com/scripted-slate/ This shows several projects that sound interesting to me. "Cat's Cradle" is listed in association with FX and "I, rebel" is listed with Amazon There is no listing for black company on this page yet <http://www.imglobaltv.com/scripted-slate/> Without a proven track record for 'IM Global Television' this might all be vaporware, or worse yet not up to fan standards. This makes me nervous coming inn the heels of game of thrones which IMO was good and bad for what they did and didn't did. I felt they left or huge parts of the story that were relevant to future plots. I am excited to see this series but i don't want to see it destroyed by a someone else's interpretation. Wow. I've been saying for years that HBO ought to do BC when Game of Thrones is done. This isn't quite what I wished for but very interesting. Thanks! On Apr 24, 2017 4:22 PM, "Michele Riccio via glencook-fans" < glencook-fans@mailman.xmission.com> wrote:

I don't know how to feel about this. Eliza Dushku as Lady... I don't know...

I think Dushku could do very well as Lady. She is an excellent actress with a great deal of range; you'd need someone who can be both imperious and reluctantly vulnerable, and she has done both well in previous roles. I like Chloe Bennet a lot as an actress, but I haven't seen the same level of acting skill or range of roles from her. More important than casting, IMO, will be budget, writers, and directors. Is this Game of Thrones level work, or Legend of the Seeker? In any case, as Richard suggested, I hope it helps Glen Cook in a big way. I'm going to watch it in any case.
