Longshadow's minion who could manipulate shadows but had few other magical talents. How to model them? Shadow Mastery requires 3rd Magnitude, so that's a high-level wizard. I'm looking for ideas.
If I recall correctly, the shadoweavers required groups and specialized equipment for all but the most basic tasks. Perhaps you could work around the contradiction by using some sort of artifact or magic item to perform the more complex tasks while still leaving the weavers themselves relatively weak magic-wise. Artifact is an interesting idea. Magic items are hard to build in this system, but it's a suitable possibility. Build a Shadoweaver prestige class that allows multiple low-level weavers to work together to perform Shadow Mastery. Maybe it takes fewer of them the more levels they have in the prestige class. Or just write up a monster stat-block for the Shadoweavers and give them an ability that works like Shadow Mastery to direct shadows but for a fixed effect. I want to avoid the prestige class route. But there aren't a lot of magic prestige classes, so it's a real good suggestion. And a good list of abilities. A Nyueng Bao Deceiver shadowweaver. Character concept sprang full blown into my brain last night in a dream. Now I HAVE to write up something about shadowweaving. So I decided to go with a Shadowweaver Background. Not 100% fidelity with the source material, but defensible as a character option. Plus Howler mentions to Longshadow to take anybody with talent and start training them up. Just like Lady took everybody with a scrap of talent and used them to make fireball projectors and shadow candles. I wonder what would have happened if Longshadow had taken that advice. Two populations of weaponized minor casters would have made the last campaign a lot different. Anyways, on to the background. Commentary welcome. I'll pull together the prestige class sometime soon. Shadowweaver You have the ability to control and to manipulate minor shadows, either through training or inborn ability. Skills: You gain 4 skill points to divide as you wish among Detect Magic, Gather Information, Handle Animal, or Magic Use. Each level beyond 1st-level, you gain 1 additional skill point to place in any of these skills. These skills are always class skills for you. Bonus Feat: You gain Talent (Shadow Mastery) as a bonus feat without needing any of the prerequisites. This grants you no other magical abilities besides this Talent. Background Trait: You gain +1 point of spell energy. If you gain spell energy later through a feat or class feature, you keep this additional point of spell energy. Favored Class: Jack-of-All-Trades. Iconic Characters: Longshadow's skrinsa. On Tuesday, August 18, 2020, 08:52:55 AM CDT, Matt Cutter via glencook-fans <glencook-fans@mailman.xmission.com> wrote: A Nyueng Bao Deceiver shadowweaver.
