Angry Lead Skies reprint?
Amazon <http://www.amazon.com/Angry-Lead-Skies-Garrett-Novel/dp/0451458753>and Barnes & Noble are now showing the cover to Angry Lead Skies in the new-style format. The book isn't listed as having been reprinted, or being scheduled for such, but the cover now mentions "author of Cruel Zinc Melodies." So perhaps one will be released soon. Presumably, if they were to release a reprint later in the year, it would mention, "author of Gilded Latten Bones." Then again, this could be simply an updated cover for the e-book version, though I hope it means something more....

If you're going to skip one Garrett book… You miss a couple of bad running jokes and avoid the hackneyed story of how Garrett hooked up with a boy genius inventor. No big loss. -- Veteran, Bermuda Triangle Expeditionary Force, 1993-1951
I actually enjoyed the book, after the first few chapters. I like the idea of "UFO Greys" being interpreted as "silver elves," and how those silver elves want to relearn lust and pleasure. Also, this book sets up Garrett's future financial security, via one of Kip Prose's inventions. On Thu, Apr 1, 2010 at 1:30 AM, Michael Llaneza <maserati@speakeasy.net>wrote:

Agreed. This was a thin story for me and my least favorite Glen Cook novel (of any series). Keep in mind that I'm a huge fan . . . but it felt like Glen was simply bored with Garrett. (I read an interview somewhere that suggested that he was continuing the series for purely contractual reasons.) The UFOs struck me as a tired idea, and they interfered constantly with my belief-suspension apparatus. I was fine with Kip conceptually, but his story was executed with no energy at all. Glen has written great books since--notably the Instrumentalies books. The Garrett series might simply be running out of gas, although WNI and CZM were both better than ALS. Anyway, ALS was a low-water mark, for some reason--the only GC novel (excluding the Swap Academy) I've read less than twice. LJ ---- Michael Llaneza <maserati@speakeasy.net> wrote:

Believe the next book coming out this year may be the last of the series since on an interview about three years ago he stated he had contracted for two Garrett P.I. books. After that interview, Cruel Zinc Melodies came out. Hopefully there will be more books, but who knows. I think he hit a creative low point and had to put out a Garrett book anyway. He's turned the series around since, but he's clearly almost done telling the story. Do Tinnie and Garrett live happily ever after or not ? Well, not in a Glenn Cook novel they don't, not in the fairy tale sense. -- Michael Llaneza maserati@speakeasy.net
I do think Garrett and Tinnie will be married, probably in Gilded Latten Bones, which was originally to be known as Gilden Latten Lovers. In other, slight, Glen Cook news, I contacted Ken Kelly recently. Ken did the art for Reap the East Wind and An Ill Fate Marshalling. He's long been one of my favorite artists, so I asked him if he would ever offer prints for those two paintings. He replied, asking for scans to remind him which two those were (he's done roughly 700 oil paintings in his life!). I sent him the scans, and he told me that he had found the transparency for RTEW, but that AIFM was buried in a file somewhere, and might take a long time to find. RTEW should be available on his site<http://www.kenkellyfantasyart.com/gallery.html>soon. On Thu, Apr 1, 2010 at 10:36 AM, Michael Llaneza <maserati@speakeasy.net>wrote:

Wow, I just looked at Ken Kelly's website--it's pretty amazing. Sort of carrying the Frank Frazetta flame into the 21st century. ---- Marc Rikmenspoel <marcrik@gmail.com> wrote:

Note: There is a spoiler here. Don't read further if you haven't read Angry Lead Skies and don't like spoilers. . . . . . . . . . . . Angry Lead Skies did provide one answer to an unasked question. Yes, there aren't a lot of human men around (many didn't survive doing their time in the army), but why does Garnet always get the ladies? Even when he met up with his old general in one of the books (a man that Garnet respected and didn't expect to see at a human supremacist meeting) the general remembered how Garnet could find a girl in the middle of the swamp. In Angry Lead Skies we learn that Garnet has a minor psychic power. Nothing much, but it's enough to make most women like him. Learning that made it worth reading the confused book that was Angry Lead Skies. And yes, I rate that book as a miss for Cook, but his few misses are better than most writers' hits. Richard
Speaking of e-book versions, I would be extremely grateful if Glen would release everything in ebook form. Even better if he could negotiate the lion's share of the profit. I can get a few Garrett files on B&N.com. On Thu, Apr 1, 2010 at 1:20 AM, Marc Rikmenspoel <marcrik@gmail.com> wrote:
