A while back I finished reading the last Garrett, P.I. book, Wicked Bronze Ambitions and I really enjoyed it as I have all the previous books. I have been reading these books since the first one came out in 1987 and I still have all the paperback copies, including the three omnibus books that includes the first nine books. The last interview by Glen Cook indicated he had a contract for two more books (Gilded Latten Bones & Wicked Bronze Ambitions). Unless he has signed any other contracts for more Garrett books, I think we have seen the end of the series, even though I would like to see another one to tie loose ends, especially whether the dead man will wake or not, and whether he and Strafa lives happily ever after. If anyone out there knows anything about any other books or interviews, I would be interested to know.
I can't believe we've heard the last of the Dead Man. He's got to go out with a memorable line (if not more). On Wed, Aug 21, 2013 at 4:26 PM, Ed Del Pilar Soto <paquico@nc.rr.com>wrote:

I found WICKED BRONZE AMBITIONS reminded more of one of those Shaklespearean Historical plays where as lot of innocent beings wind up dead; in fairness, the body count is less than in Hamlet. That still makes for less than enjoyable reading. I'llattempt to omit spoilers: those who have read this tragic story will know of an early and a much later death-like event both of which occur in one instance to a character around whom there is a positive valence and in the other to one whose sole flaw is that of [deleted to avoid spoiler]. I certainly hope there is sequel; WICKED BRONZE AMBITIONS IS very well written; Glen Cook is incapable of bad writing. But I am really hoping for a sequel to WBA to take the bad taste out of my mouth! The fact that 53 people have bothered to write Amazon reviews suggests the book is doing quite well. Glen's probably already started the next one, based on his past working methods. He's given himself almost a new set of characters around Garrett to play with, which can keep it interesting for him. I expect the next book will explore the background of why Strafa was only 15 when Kevens was born, and why she's (apparently) never been married. There's probably some weird Hill stuff that's part of this, with Hill people not wanting the past dug up, while Prince Rupert wants Garrett to look into some recent strange happenings. By the end, the two plot lines intertwine. Just my guess at what comes next in, perhaps, Fierce Platinum Nobles. Meanwhile, Working God's Mischief has an Amazon release date of March 11, 2014. They also show a trade paperback of Sung in Blood to be released on May 6 next year. The publisher is listed as Nightshade(!), so they not be completely dead after all. It gives me hope there could be the eventual release of an omnibus of Wrath of Kings. I'm anal retentive, and want one to sit evenly on my shelf with A Cruel Wind, A Fortress in Shadow, and An Empire Unacquainted with Defeat! I like Marc's idea..merits and will hopefully receive careful attention from our still favourite (if apparently unrepentant!) author. Also, what happens if--or should it be when?--Strafa gets pregnant? !! Different tastes for different folk; I'd put WBA at the bottom of my list, just below Petty Pewter Gods. IMHO, sequel to WBA cannot come soon enough...and, on a side note, fans of Garrett may enjoy ZERO SIGHT and ZERO SUM, e-books available on Kindle for $3.99 a throw...they are by B. Justin Shier, M. D. (he just graduated from Medical School.) Interestingly enough both these were whilst Dr. Shier and his editor were both medical students! I woudn't get your hopes too high; it's likely a mistaken prepublication placeholder or a paperback that was in the pipeline before Night Shade went belly up. Night Shade's as dead as a doornail, but the corpse has been raised an imprint by it's purchasers, Skyhorse Publishing and Start Publishing. Im bummed about Strafa. Haven't finished WBA yet, but my biggest bitch is: where is all the humor??? In all the earlier books I couldn't go three pages with out at least a chuckle! It was 50-60 pages before I laughed at anything in this one. And I REALLY hope there is another book! This series is way too fun and endearing to go out so darkly. Jim, we're all bummed about Strafa...had to read the book 3 times before I could just enjoy reading it. ?Went to a re reading of the Dark Empire to cool off. Keep the faith. As most everyone who follows this group/community knows, I was bummed out by the story/plot. Jim put it nicely: where is the humour? Where also are the supportive friends of Garrett. not just Morley and Belinda; Penny is barely present and Singe has too limited a part. And at least Mike and Hellebore could be expected to step up also--and as friends rather than bed-fellows. One very small plus is that a tenative thread for a sequel to this dark and dismal tale might carefully examine Constance Algarda's future role, prominence, and influence on The Hill. I am hoping that the bleak character of this book does not presage some sort of major health crisis on the part of Mr. Cook--at least certainly not until he has the series back out of the black hole it is presently in with WBA'' presently, the expression/assessment of a character in WBA '...screwed the pooch...' seems to have applicability! Books take on their own character. Faded Steel Heat was dark, but the surrounding volumes had the weirdest humor of any. And without trying to offer any spoiler, I think Garrett will be finding some romance soon. On Aug 31, 2013 1:18 PM, <c01demp@aol.com> wrote:

I can't believe we've heard the last of the Dead Man. He's got to go out with a memorable line (if not more).
