Gilded Latten Bones (Spoilers)
Hi All New member to the mailing list but I've been a Glen Cook fan for close to 20 years now. Not long ago I finished the latest Garrett Book and I got the distinct feeling that it may be the last as Garrett appeared to finally settle down. I also fel Glen may have taken the character and the City of Tunfaire as far as he can and may be running out of ideas. I can only think that the return of Glory Mooncalled may be the only thing to liven them up now. Many thanks Alan
Alan, There is another Garrett P.I. book in the works according to Locus magazine. Also there is an omnibus with the first three Garrett P.I. books, Sweet Silver Blues (1987), Bitter Gold Hearts (1988), and Cold Copper Tears (1988). It is on my books order list since my original copies of the books are starting to turn yellow. That's good news, Ed. I too had thought Gilded Latten Bones felt like a finale. Do you have a link to the Locus Mag info? Everyone lose their pre-Google skills??? :) http://www.locusmag.com/Resources/ForthcomingBooks.html September 2011 Cook, Glen • Winter's Dream • (Subterranean Press, cln, hc) An different publisher for Glen and definitely not a Garrett novel. "Winter's Dream" is a short story published in the Balticon 31 program book of 1997. About 30 pages in length. Maybe Glen is putting in some of the thousand things he left out. From the Introduction in the program book: Anyone who reads "Winter's Dreams" will instantly be aware of its many shortcomings. This is my first assay into short fiction in fifteen years. Some minds are better suited to long, I suppose. Some lack the capacity to leave things out. My last short work appeared in Asimov's, Mid-December 1982 issue. 1985 saw publication of a 240,000 word trilogy prequeling events in that story. "Winter's Dreams," for me is noteworthy for the thousand things left out. It is ever thus. There are always more questions to answer about these people from other dimensions and more events in their lives to chronicle. If they survive. In effect, "Winter's Dreams" is like an artist's preliminary pencil sketch for one panel in a triptych. A lot of detail and color and polish need to be added before a satisfactorily finished whole appears to my eye. On May 26, 2011, at 12:09 PM, Michael Llaneza wrote:

Michael, The people & publishing section of the January 2011 issue of Locus magazine, in the books sold section, there is a short blip that says: Glen Cook sold a new Garrett P.I. novel to Jessica Wade at Roc via Russell Galen. That is where I got the info about another Garrett P.I. book. I wonder how future Garrett publishing will progress. The first Garrett omnibus will be out in August, and the second one in, I believe, February. Each has three books, so Red Iron Nights will finally be available again early next year. Presumably, there will be two more omnibus volumes, which will run through Cruel Zinc Melodies. So Glen has to write one more volume, so there can be five volumes with three books in each :-) Marc On Sun, May 29, 2011 at 5:07 PM, Ed Del Pilar Soto <paquico@nc.rr.com>wrote:
