This escaped my notice until just now, so I thought I'd pass it along. A new short in the On The Long Run arc is set to publish in the upcoming Paladins of Valor anthology, the Kindle version of which is due out on the 19th. I'm rereading the canon, working my way through the newly acquired ebooks. And I have Questions. It's been 10 YEARS since Wicked Bronze Ambitions was published. Will we ever get a sequel? I *need* to know Stafa survived and Our Heroes get their Happily Ever After! (For those who don't think Cook does Happily Ever After, I give you Croaker and Lady, and The Dragon Never Sleeps.) In Angry Lead Skies, Katie shows up drifts through the plot, and disappears again. (Where did you come from? Where did you go? Where did you come from, Katie-my-gal?) Dean has a box of weapons under his bed at Garrett's house in Gilded Latten Bones. But it's not just Garrett's old hardware. Why do you have enough weapons to equip a Marine fire team, Dean?! (Paraphrased from an actual conversation.)

I just reread Port of Shadows, in the newly downloaded Kindle version I just purchased. That...is not the novel I read in hard cover. I mean it, it is exactly the same. But there's so much there that I don't remember from my readings of the hard cover. It's like it's a whole new book! And I enjoyed it a lot more this time.

Cranky review (SPOILERS)

Disclaimer: Shortened the name to avoid trouble for anybody behind profanity filters. Review: Well, that went fast. It's a short read. But I enjoyed it. Voice seemed more like the old Croaker voice from the original trilogy. Though Cook's prose is more polished, it doesn't change that old voice. I missed young, optimistic Croaker. It's self-contained enough to enjoy on its own, but has enough callbacks to engage us long-time fans. Spoilers: . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . (Characters included to prevent whitespace from being collapsed.) . . . . . . . . I'm pretty sure I agree with the theory that the twins here are the twins from Port of Shadows and that the mysterious one-armed Taken is Twice Dead. Too bad the Lady gobbled him up; he had potential.
