I agree entirely. I plan on totally missing the so-called 'big' event. IMO, the new president is not the beginning of the end, though he might hasten the decline. This once-great country began its decline years ago. Sorry Jim! My fault - I thought it was you who posted that - how could I know otherwise? That's what it looked like. Sorry again! BTW, I'll give up my fractals when they pry my cold dead CPU out of it's mobo! .

Seriously - haven't you been keeping up with tech news? Chips in the head is being done right now - like treatment for depression, parkinsons, etc. and other functional physical disabilities. A "calculating" chip integrated with normal brain matter is something we may see in the not too distant future. Yes - we may really be able to do fractals in our heads! I hope they don't run the chips on a MS OS.... On 2009-01-20 10:38, david wrote:

There should be a setting to allow your "PocoMail 4.5" email client to view as text only, instead of in HTML. That way it should always be white background with black text, and all the same font and size.

Yes, I know. But I've been thinking that a truly personal computer would be one that springs from some special genes, grows and develops with you, and becomes an extension of your mind. So it does the things that computers are very good at, amplifying the mind ... Jack Of TraDeZ wrote:

Thank you Russell for expressing my sentiments very precisely. I, too, am very disheartened by the views expressed, for no apparent reason other than to inflame, by two of the prominent and valuable members of the list. As a fellow 60+'er, I thank you again. Have faith. I see a new day coming - not the end of the USA as we know it, but the renewal of our beloved country as we KNEW it. Bill Jemison Russell Nelson wrote:
Jim,
I have enjoyed your fractals for many years now. Maybe I have not read the text associated with them (other than the fractal cat stories -- I, too, am a cat person) but I am totally disheartened by your and Jack of TraDeZ words here. This has usually been a group that was, I thought, driven by the search for hidden beauty in chaos. What goes after this is not fractal related but, perhaps, is chaos related.
It appears that you and Jack, while two key members of this Fractint group, may not be so driven toward the search for hidden beauty. I am truly saddened.
Without your getting into a deep descent into nastiness how can you believe this is the beginning or hastening of the decline of this country? This last 8 years has been truly horrifying for the USA and our reputation around the world. This last regime has bankrupted this nation, not just financially (Billions and Billions of dollars monthly going to what end other than killing people needlessly -- US, Iraqi, Afghani people) but in trust within this country and around the world. Bush has truly created chaos for us and the rest of the world. This is not chaos in the beautiful Fractint sort but the brutal, bloody, death affirming, hatred searching type.
Bush has created this. Granted, this came out of an even greater horror of 911 but what he has done in response is truly terrible and in many ways worse. Our world is not safer, kinder, or more beautiful but is filled with fear, loss, death and ugliness beyond what I have seen in my 60+ years. The 911 event was caused by some fundamentalist Islamic thugs. Our initial response into Afghanistan was justified but the unnecessary escalation into Iraq was not. We (the USA via Bush), a supposedly enlightened nation, created this and we are only beginning to pay for it.
I am sure this, and other responses, will trigger a flamogram type response (maybe this is exactly what you want!), but, in all good conscience, how can you not have some hope that we might have a chance to get ourselves out of the quagmire or cesspool that has defined the Bush presidency? Do you want the continuation of the evil hostilities we have seen?

I love geometric fractals, but even more I love the fractals found in nature. The Bush administration has been an enemy of wilderness and the environment. At least Obama wishes to preserve what's left of our beautiful public lands. We will now have an administration that listens to and respects science instead of generating pseudo-science or censoring science. Lee Skinner

As a long time lurker I was tempted to write earlier to say that this is SERIOUSLY off topic. Apart from the underlying ideology of some messages which is repugnant, there is chauvinism - the world, and the subscribers of this list, is greater than the United States of America.(Some of us will watch the inauguration at ridiculous hours, however.} I greatly enjoy Jim's fractals and am grateful for them.
