Documentation for a new 'official release' of Fractint
#############################################################
I agree that the program itself [Fractint V20.03] is stable and worthy of release (with perhaps just a little bug fixing). But the documentation has gotten way out of date Tim
I also agree that in an 'official release' the documentation must match the program. I started updating the V20.0 docs when I occasionally learned of something that later versions of Fractint did beyond V20.0. However, I'm concerned that my merely editing the distributed docs (which now include page numbers which are no longer at the top of the pages) doesn't create anything useful that can be merged into an 'official release' of V20.03.0 docs. My copy of the docs can still be viewed in an editor but can no longer be printed correctly. Has anyone else done any updates to their local copy of the docs or collected update information that could be included in a up-to-date version of the documentation? <---<< The demo files also run extremely rapidly on my 400MHz machine. I also suspect that they are not doing some things correctly but I don't have any way to know if their results are correct or not. I feel that a name change to something like Fractflo is likely to be confusing to many non-technical users. Having a consistent name for the program is more important that being technically accurate about the program's method of calculation. The days when the 'integerness' of Fractint was critically important have passed into nostalgia (at least for me). - Hal Lane ######################### # hallane@earthlink.net # ######################### ############################################################# --- Outgoing mail is certified Virus Free. This past Tuesday, I replied to the FractInt List on where some fairly current documentation may be found (up-to-date as of Version 20.2.02). And it is in two different formats: 1. Microsoft Word -- A Master document with all of the sections broken down into sub-documents, along with a table of contents, appendices, index, etc. All tables have been fully formatted, and the MS generated TOC automatically jumps to the correct page when clicked. http://www.Nahee.com/Software/Master_Word_Doc.zip 2. Rich Text Format -- everything that the above has except for the MS Word generated table of contents and index. http://www.Nahee.com/Software/RTF_Doc.zip The grammar, spelling, punctuation, etc. has already been corrected. Only thing it needs to bring it up to the "stable release level" of versions 20.2.05 are three Patches. (I had started to do 20.2.03 but never got around to finishing it.)
