Update 2020-02-09 to SDL version

Folks, Fixed creation of parameter entries (using <b>) that randomly failed. Fixed fractal type menu items that did not return to the currently selected fractal. Changed Arbitrary Precision Math C code to use 32/64 bit routines instead of 16/32 bit routines. Look in the directory: https://www.fractint.org/ftp/experimental/ For: Windows version (32-bit) is: SDL2-fractint-20.05alpha-2020-02-09.zip Pre-compiled 64-bit Linux version is: SDL2-Xfractint-20.05alpha-2020-02-09.tar.xz Jonathan

As Edward Montague, I've deposited a few files, with a fractal content, to http://riotorto.users.sourceforge.net/Maxima/vtk/elevation_grid/index.html The structure of the program was chosen to emulate that of fractint, the definition of an iterated function and then the iteration loops for x and y values; with a particular, though not unique, escape criteria.

However, when I removed: "/accounts/" and hit <Enter> I was taken to this page: https://mailman.xmission.com/postorius/lists/ which included Fractint and Fracdev in its list of Mailing Lists. Clicking the Fractint link showed me this page: https://mailman.xmission.com/postorius/lists/fractint.mailman.xmission.com/ where I tried the "Log In" button. Clicking the "Log In" button took me to an actual Log In page: https://mailman.xmission.com/accounts/login/?next=/postorius/lists/fractint… (If the above long link is chopped into two non-working pieces, you may need to separately copy each piece and manually reassemble the two pieces into correct full URL in your browser address bar.) However, when I entered my *Fractint* Login ID & password, I got: "The e-mail address and/or password you specified are not correct." My FracDev login attempt also failed. I tried the "Forgot Password?" link on the *FracDev* login page: https://mailman.xmission.com/accounts/login/?next=/postorius/lists/fractdev… The "Forgot Password?" / "reset it" link they gave me was not "List-Specific": https://mailman.xmission.com/accounts/password/reset/ On the Password Reset page I entered my email address, clicked "Reset My Password" and got: "The e-mail address is not assigned to any user account", so, it appears that they currently don't have access to their User Accounts database. Archives updating

The archive links for the fractint list are working, but the list archives appear not to be updating. I have asked support about this. While I don't think the low traffic is the problem, we might be advised to post a few more messages in case there's some threshold before newer messages get archived. Tim

xfractint batch mode

Hello! I am firing up xfractint on my Ubuntu machine and it's pretty much as I remembered fractint many years ago--an old friend. Is anyone successfully using batch mode with xfractint? I can't get it to output anything other than a blank 800x600 image around 3KB. xfractint works well in interactive mode with the same .par. I was wondering if it might be related to setting video params, based on the fractint manual, but that doesn't seem to be a thing with xfractint...? command line: combs@pripyat:~$ xfractint @madnessmethod.par/madnessmethod batch=y savename=barf .par contents: madnessmethod { reset=2004 type=mandel center-mag=-0.83027567839279071/+0.20488435231784574/18436.37 params=0/0 float=y maxiter=88888 inside=0 colors=(a)grey.map } very glad for any help anyone can offer! Just fired up Fractint the other day to show my 6 year old son about them. We got some 3-D images rendered and he had fun watching them with his own pair of 3-D blue/red glasses. Then I gave my wife a tutorial of Fractint and talked about some of the practical applications people have discovered utilizing fractal geometry. Nice to hear from Jim again. He's a pillar in my daily email checking. Little things like reloading saved images are sufficient for the SDL version to crash on me.
