FOTD -- September 03, 2008 (Rating 4)
Fractal visionaries and enthusiasts:
A fractal with a rating of a 4 leaves much to be desired, but
it's still better than the 3-rated image that passed for
yesterday's FOTD. The parent fractal was created by the formula
Z^(1.666667)+C as it appears at ground level of the logarithmic
ladder when no function is applied.
The most notable thing about the parent is its origin symmetry
-- a most unusual thing to appear in a Mandeloid. Even more
interesting is the fact that many of its minibrots have a
similar symmetry. Today's image shows one of these almost-
symmetrical minibrots.
I named the image "Original Symmetry" because of this symmetry.
The rather average calculation time of 3-1/4 minutes should
cause little discomfort. But if a problem should arise, the
completed GIF image is or soon will be available on the FOTD web
site at:
<http://home.att.net/~Paul.N.Lee/FotD/FotD.html>
The third consecutive perfect day passed uneventfully here at
Fractal Central on Tuesday. The temperature of 86F 30C was a
bit on the warm side, but the unusually dry air kept it quite
comfortable. The fractal cats, who might have seen the last of
the manx, spent most of the day chasing each other up and down
the hallway and getting into various other trouble.
My day was appropriately busy with non-fractal things. The next
FOTD will appear in 24 hours. Until then take care, and if
elected president, I will give everything to everybody.

FOTD -- September 02, 2008 (Rating 3)
Fractal visionaries and enthusiasts:
Rarely do I post a FOTD fractal that rates as low as a 3, but
today I have done it. My sister stopped in unexpectedly Monday
afternoon, and I spent the rest of the day talking with her.
But when FOTD post time came I was caught with no fractal ready.
In a near panic ;-) I hastily entered two numbers into the
DivideJulibrot formula and used the first thing that appeared.
The image consists totally of inside stuff made visible by the
'fmod' inside fill.
The interesting part of the image lies in the holes, which
surprisingly have a unifying theme. Even though they are of
different sizes, most of them vaguely resemble the letter Z.
I named the image "Purely a Filler", which is what it is. The
image can be seen by running the included parameter file or by
going to the FOTD web site at:
<http://home.att.net/~Paul.N.Lee/FotD/FotD.html>
and viewing the finished image there.
The weather was perfect and the fractal cats were happy on
Monday. The next FOTD will be posted in 24 hours. Until then,
take care, and try not to get into too much of a rush.

FOTD -- September 01, 2008 (Rating 7)
Fractal visionaries and enthusiasts:
Today's fractal lies in the same area of the same parent as the
images of the past 2 days. And like those two images, it con-
sists of an intricate network of filaments. The cubic minibrot
at the center of today's image is well beyond resolution, though
the mixture of quadratic and cubic effects surrounding it is
apparent.
I named the image "Land of Loopiness" because so many of the
filaments form closed loops. Then I rated it at a 7. The
calculation time of 1-1/3 minutes is brief enough to keep every-
one happy. And of course, the finished image is or soon will be
posted on the FOTD web site at:
<http://home.att.net/~Paul.N.Lee/FotD/FotD.html>
Sunday morning, when FL asked if I felt like going to visit a
new antique emporium that just opened about 75 miles away, I
reluctantly said yes. This is why the FOTD for September 1 is
so late. I guess I can't see what is so fascinating with the
'junque' other people have the sense to throw away, but it makes
FL happy if I am there with her, looking bored, so I just can't
say no to her. Luckily, or unluckily, we found nothing worth
picking up.
With maximum sunshine, low humidity, and a temperature of 82F
28C, Sunday was a near perfect day here at Fractal Central. The
fractal cats celebrated the fine weather as well as the apparent
departure of the manx cat by giving themselves a thorough
grooming. (And that's no tall tail!) Like some ovens, cats are
self-cleaning.
My day was fair enough, despite somehow being drawn into the
antiquing expedition. The next FOTD, with a new theme, will be
posted within 8 hours. Until then, take care, and the question
is not, "why is there something instead of nothing", it is "why
is it impossible for absolutely nothing to exist".
