Well, first off, someone correct me if i'm wrong, but its nice to FINALLY get the correct "into battle" version of "beat Box", on cd... my Repertoir version of 'into battle' had the 8:20 version, not the 5+ min version. BUT... i dont like the way 'into battle' is mastered on disc 4 of the box. the timing and pauses are off, and volumes seemingly inconsistent. Now... overall whats my impression. Great packaging. The audio content? sadly. its forgettable and miss-able. just lots of noodling around with existing tracks. not really different versions exciting enough to be worthwhile. Plus, all the renaming! "41 unreleased tracks". well, if noodled around variations of "backbeat" equating to 14 differently titled tracks is your thing.... there are still many other tracks they could have or should have included. The shep pettibone jukebox 7" promo for 'beat box' (remix) comes to mind immediately.... but maybe Island owns the copyright to that one. Id have to consult my vinyl catalog, but i think the white picture disc for 'close' had some unique versions on it, as well as the 3 (pink cover) variations (read the matix #) 12" for "close". something was special somewhere, i'm sure, and its not here, and still not on cd....
This is where I got my CD version of Beat Box (Into Battle): Just Can't Get Enough - New Wave Dance CD: 1997 US (Rhino; R2-72586) [16 Sep] 4:48 Beat Box [original "Into Battle" version] It is what it says, and sounds fine to me. Looks like some of the content from the 1999 custom CD (that you could order when you bought Seduction from select retailers) does not appear on the new box set. Can this be confirmed? I LOVE the Shep Pettibone remix of Beat Box. I know the 12" picture disc of Close to the Edit didn't name a mix on the a-side, but it did seem to be a unique mix with some extra ambient noises thrown in. I happen to like it better than some other mixes, but in a noisy room, I think it would be difficult to pick up some of the extra parts that were thrown in. --- cdaraghy@bestweb.net wrote:

All sites I've seen fail to describe the DVD portion of the set. This 3CD+DVD set is described in terms of the contents of its 4 CD's. Is the 4th disc all video? Part video, part audio only? Region free? Standards compatible? --- cdaraghy@bestweb.net wrote:

It's not 3CD+DVD it's 4CD. Last minute change as I understand. There are apparently plans to bring out a DVD at a later date. -----Original Message----- From: ztt-bounces+simon=antmusic.fsnet.co.uk@mailman.xmission.com [mailto:ztt-bounces+simon=antmusic.fsnet.co.uk@mailman.xmission.com] On Behalf Of stephen kolar Sent: 14 August 2006 21:49 To: cdaraghy@bestweb.net; The value of entertainment. Hi, According to an archived xmission ZTT post, I know Josh Bortz claimed in 1998 to own the Act - Chance 7". I don't know what e-mail address he uses now, but perhaps you know the answer to my question. Is the version of Winner 88 that appears on the Chance 7" an instrumental or does it have vocals? Also, I know you were initially disappointed by the lack of new material on the Art of Noise box set. Any new thoughts on it? I think you were looking for a CD quality version of the Shep Pettibone mix of Beat Box, which I steered you to (or can do so now, if I didn't then). Thanks for your time, Stephen Kolar ____________________________________________________________________________________ Got a little couch potato? Well, I was quite mistaken on this. The Shep Pettibone mix is still unavailable on CD (to my knowledge). I was thinking of the "Into Battle" version, which at the time of it's release on a various artists compilation still hadn't been released elsewhere on CD. Now it's easy enough to find... on the box set. I like the box set. I'd rather have some vinyl-only remixes rereleased than hear many of the outakes present on the box set. Much like the custom CD's offered when Seduction came out... a little bit of rare, a couple of throwaway outakes. Glad to see the cassingles mixes made it onto the box set, though.
From Lazlo's discography: [Beat Box] [on Various: Just Can't Get Enough - New Wave Dance] CD: 1997 US (Rhino; R2-72586) [16 Sep] 4:48 Beat Box [original "Into Battle" version]
