I really like a song of his called "Gravy Waltz." Re: Speedy West and Jimmy Bryant ... This may be blasphemy to some, but they are a little bit too much chops, too flashy for me. Which is a weird criticism from someone who enjoys Eddie Van Halen's playing on the early VH albums (and only the early ones). I love the guitar players in Bob Wills' bands as heard on the Tiffany Transcriptions stuff. Precursors to Speedy and Jimmy I guess but a lot more "soulful" to my ears. PS I agree that 'Please Advise' by Berne/Paraphrase is great. Like it better than 'Visitation Rites', for sure. WY

You don't put on any of that stuff for its soul. To me, it's just about how imaginative those two were as a team, and the feeling of fun those two got playing together.

Totally. Eespec the stuff with Junior Barnard, who was really revolutionary for his time and great for any time. BTW -- Buddy's "Gentle On My Mind" solo on John Hartford's ALL IN THE NAME OF LOVE album is an ultimate dazzler. Plus, there's that Jerry Reed album with Paul Franklin. Can;t remember the name. sh
William (et. al): If it's the Steve Allen/Ray Brown tune, that's no surprise. It is a "jazz" tune. Ken Waxman --- William York <william_york@hotmail.com> wrote: > I really like a song of his called "Gravy Waltz."
