Texas is far behind, I'm home for the holidays in the hills of Virginia, with Electric Masada on New Years on the horizon. I've been considering what to do with myself the day of the 31st and have decided that my goal is to eat something that I never have before. Culinary adventure, food stories for drunken party regaling, this is what I seek. I like to consider myself reasonably well-traveled and well-fed and will eat pretty much anything, but of course I've only touched the tip of the iceberg. Any private replies of the interesting, exotic, or eyebrow-raising would be heartily appreciated. cheers, Tom
http://www.nytimes.com/2002/12/27/books/27BOOK.html It's not fully but mainly positive. For the German speaking (or reading, in this case) people I can recommend Peter Niklas Wilson's sober and analytic Davis book (2001): http://www.oreos.de/miles.htm Since the second half of the 80ies, Wilson (co-)wrote biographies about Charlie Parker, Sonny Rollins*, Ornette Coleman*, Anthony Braxton and Albert Ayler (the latter being the only one not published by Oreos). Wilson makes the best out of the publisher's conceptual limits. *These books were translated into English. Amazon has short excerpts from the Coleman biography, which received a not-so-great but IMO unjust review in The Wire No. 194. Regards Franz Fuchs
There was a considerably more dismissive review of the same book in the Times book review today: http://www.nytimes.com/2002/12/29/books/review/29SHATZT.html You can also find the entire first chapter here: http://www.nytimes.com/2002/12/29/books/chapters/1229-1st-szwed.html Steve Smith ssmith36@sprynet.com NP - Mozart, Symphony No. 34, English Concert/Pinnock (Archiv) -----Original Message----- From: zorn-list-admin@mailman.xmission.com [mailto:zorn-list-admin@mailman.xmission.com]On Behalf Of Franz Fuchs Sent: Friday, December 27, 2002 3:22 AM To: The Zorn List Subject: Review of J.
