Coltrane's noisiest album (to my knowledge) is "Meditations".
===== Original Message From Theo Klaase <river_of_dogs@yahoo.com> ===== I've recently gotten into Coltrane and I had a couple of questions:
a.) Did Coltrane do any "noise" music? Did he ever make the sax scream like Zorn, and if so, on which release?
b.) What did he die from?
E-mail me privately, thanks in advance...

Particularly noisy, in my opinion: "Ascension," "Om," "Interstellar Space," and "The Olatunji Concert." There's certainly some screaming sax on most of his later recordings, though I don't find Zorn's style that similar to Coltrane's. He died from liver cancer. If you want really, truly noisy sax work, I'd recommend checking out Borbetomagus. At 01:24 AM 10/16/2002 +0200, kevin.by wrote:

I'd add "Stellar Regions", and "Live in Japan" -- quite a difficult listen with 4 CD's. The sound on "Olatunji" is very raw, but it serves the performance well and makes a powerful impression. Julien
