I noticed that Lambchop is releasing two albums on the same date in February. Is there a difference between releasing two albums, as opposed to releasing a double album? Is this purely the artist's choice (or arbitrary) or is there a commercial motive that I am not seeing?

They could just be two different beasts that wouldn't sit well together as a double. Tom Waits' last releases would be another example - they came out on the same day. Stores still did cheapo deals on them so you may end up paying the same as a double anyway... L
