What was the name of that woman saxist who passed as a man? Seems to me there's a group from the Northwest named after her, something like the Billy Tipton Memorial Quartet? Thanks for your help. Martin
I don't know the name of the woman (who did that masquerade), but the group existed in the past as Billy Tipton Memorial Saxophone Quartet; as far as I know now they are known as "The Billies". They are Jessica Lurie (alto & tenor sax); Amy Denio (alto sax); Sue Orfield (tenor sax); Tobi Stone (baritone sax) and Will Dowd (drums) as special guest. Last that I listened to from them was an EP called "Shortcuts" (Zipa! Music BMI). More information at Jessica Lurie's website. Later, Hugo Linares NP: David Sylvian _Gone to Earth_ (Virgin).
