Ornette Coleman Free Jazz: In Britain there appear to 4 different versions of this album on CD. They are 8122-72397-2 (In a white digipak) 7567-81347-2 (In a jewel case) 8122-73609-2 (In a red digipak) 8122-75208-2 (In a grey card sleeve, with a hole cut in it to show the Pollock picture underneath) The first of these looks like just the original album, whilst I think the other three all have the same 17-minute extra track First take. Can anyone confirm this? Cuong Vu: Does anyone know anything about Cuong Vus touring plans. I know hes playing in Leeds at the end of March, but I cant find a London date. Surely he cant be coming all this way just for one show. There doesnt appear to be anything worthwhile about him on the web. Atomic Boom Boom: Does anyone know why this album hasnt come out outside Norway. According to the Jazzland website it was coming out at the end of September last year. The soundclips were brilliant and I was really looking forward to it. Since then, nothing! I hope Jazzland still have distribution as I want the Endresen/Wallumrød CD when its released. Hi, Atomic "Boom Boom" has been available in France since... November (?). You may want to check out fnac.com. It's available and they ship abroad. Do you have a release date/label for the Endresen/Wallumrod CD ? Pascal.

Pascal.
jazzlandrec.com shows Merriwinkle was supposed to have been released Jan. 29 although Dusty Groove is "out of stock". It also has Helge Sten aka Deathprod from Supersilent on a number of tracks. James

Since I own it (or the American pressed equivalent of it), I can confirm that the edition in the grey card sleve with a hole to see the Pollock picture, does have the additional take. I can't tell you about the others though. -Richard --- David Evans <davidcerievans@hotmail.com> wrote:

I've always been meaning to get into Marion Brown; where's a good place to start? I'm very intrigued by him, after seeing a picture of him holding a Martin "Typewriter" sax--one of the stranger (i.e. hard to play) saxophones of all time. I have to give credit to any player who bucks the Mark VI trend. Briggan Krauss is another player who appears to use an old American horn. I don't know which make and model because I've not gotten that close of a look at it from pictures. Any way, his tone is incredible! Zach
I'm not the world's expert on Marion Brown, but his "Three for Shepp," on Impulse, is a joy. At 06:29 AM 2/9/04, Zachary Steiner wrote:

Zachary: Try Three for Shepp (Impulse) or one of his two CDs on ESP. He's also on ASCENSION. Ken Waxman --- Zachary Steiner <zsteiner@butler.edu> wrote: > I've always been meaning to get into Marion Brown;

Dave: I'm not exactly sure what your question is about Free Jazz. Since I don't know stock numbers what you're probably seeing is succesive versions of WEA trying to make as much $$$ from its Ornette holdings as possible by reissuing the disc in diffeerrtn sleeves. The original "Free Jazz" was released as Atlantic Jazz 1364-2. I rationalized that I could buy it on CD though I had the LP CD because it had the 17-minute extra track. At CD prices, that's probably the one to buy. Considering how major labels handle jazz so-called product I'm sure the powers that be spent more time repackaging the disc than remastering it. The disc is definitely worth hearing, especially when you note that Freddie Hubbard doesn't quite fit in with the others. Can't help with Vu, but try to get to see him if you can.
