franz - thanks for the great link. i've looked around for some of those cardew pieces a bit in the past with little success. does anyone know if the essay about improvisation (i think it's called "on improvising" or something similar) is available anywhere? i've seen it excerpted before, maybe in derek bailey's book. thanks, jesse
