The Zornlist poll of favorite horn duos March 14, 2003 True to form, zornithologists picked Zorn/Douglas as their favorite horn duo -- and then quickly fled for wildly diverse and individualistic choices. The numbers to the left of the names indicate the number of points received by a duo (Zorn/Douglas rec'd 19 points). The numbers in parenthesis to the right of the names indicate the number of ballots that duo was named on (Zorn/Douglas were named on 9 ballots). Where know number is indicated, the duo rec'd a single point on a single ballot. Two reminders about the rules: Each person casting a ballot was given five points to distribute among one or more favorites. And an ad hoc Hall of Fame was created to place a few famous and obvious duos off limits (Bird/Diz, Miles/Trane, Miles/Wayne, Ornette/Cherry, Stitt/Ammons, Sims/Cohn). 19 John Zorn/Dave Douglas (9) 5 Phil Woods/Lew Tabackin (1) 5 Michael Brecker/Randy Brecker (1) 4 Peter Brotzmann/Toshinori Kondo (2) 3.5 Steve Bernstein/Briggan Krauss (2) 3 John Coltrane/Eric Dolphy (2) 3 Eric Dolphy/Booker Little (2) 2.5 Jackie McLean/Hank Mobley (L. In these instances, the Poll Administrator entered appropriate pointage.
