It is actually not a guy, but two drum 'n bass guys from London: John Coxon and Ashley Wales. "Amassed" is their second CD in collaboration with Shipp. The first one ("Masses") had this great team of guests: Matthew Shipp; Roy Campbell; Evan Parker; Mat Maneri; William Parker; Tim Berne; Daniel Carter. Both CDs were recorded in a very interesting way: Coxon and Wales recorded their part first, then it was sent to Shipp and Co who put improvisations on it, then it was sent back to London where Spring Heel Jack mixed it in the final release. These albums are definitely ones of my favorites in the last two years. I like the way Matthew Shipp is going and I hope two more of his projects which will arrive in a couple of months won't be disappointing. Hi, As someone said before, Spring Heel Jack are two British guys much in the drum'n'bass field. In previous outings they have collaborated with people from Sonic Youth and William Burroughs (maybe just sampling him, can't remember). I can just second the recommendation of "Masses" as one of the most surprising recent albums. Talking about d'n'b wouldn't be too orientative in this case, because the lack of rythym is a constant throughout the album. It's mainly about atmospheres and the contrast with the "downtown" improvisers sounds just great. Not jazz, not electronics, or anything I could put a label on. One of my fave Shipp albums is also "Pastoral Composure" far from his usual ecstatic thing and more in the melodic tradition. Great originals and a fine solo cover of "Prelude to a Kiss". And Roy Campbell is just great here. Best, Efrén del Valle _______________________________________________________________ Yahoo! Messenger Nueva versión: Webcam, voz, y mucho más ¡Gratis!
