JIm O'Rourke is fantastic, especially the Drag City stuff. Great pop songs with rather bizarre lyrics. I think it's essential stuff, and highly recommended. JIm O'Rourke is fantastic<<<
While browsing the local video store a couple of weeks ago, a complete stranger walked up to me, handed me the film Love Liza, and told me I really should watch it. Excuse my ignorance, but I was delighted to discover this oddity, complete with quirky pop songs by JO. He is in the pantheon of creative pop music.
O'Rourkes music on that movie is really great.... it was a pleasant surprise to find his name in the credits ----- Original Message ----- From: "s~Z" <keithsz@concentric.net> To: <zorn-list@mailman.xmission.com> Sent: Tuesday, July 01, 2003 1:30 PM Subject: Re: Re Jim O'Rourke/SY

O'Rourke has been discussed here repeatedly and there seems to be no middle-posture about him. I'm with those who are skeptical about his work and, in fact, I really question "Eureka" and "Insignificance". The former at least has some interesting stuff but the second really seems to have the best of titles. I also remember an EP in which he played three or four notes on an acoustic guitar and maybe one or two on a hurdy-gurdy and they sold it as some kind of John Fahey inspiration. Come on. I didn't dare to check "Bad Timing" since it seems to be in the same vein. Besides his collaboration with Sonic Youth & Sam Prekop and his work as a producer, which I find really good, I would only save "Halfway to a Threeway" from his discography. This one I really find a perfectly crafted folk-pop album. "Halfway..." alone makes me wonder whether he's one of the most overrated musicians working off-mainstream or I haven't really appreciated him as he deserves. I think I'll save some skepticism, just in case. Best, Efrén del Valle --- Craig Lieske <garbageisland@hotmail.com> escribió: > JIm O'Rourke is fantastic, especially the Drag City
