For those of you who haven't thrown away your VCRs, there are a couple of tapes of Chris Marker films available, "Sans Soleil" from New Yorker Films and "La Jetee" in a few places, I think. Icarus Films recently released a tape of "A Grin Without a Cat", which looks prohibitatively expensive to consumers ($490), but if you bug a local public library enough, and they have loads of spare funds lying around, they might buy a copy. I also know that Mondo Kim's sells a copy of "Le Joli Mai" for $40 or so, but I assume it's a boot, and haven't seen it yet. There's also a PAL tape of "The Last Bolshevik" available from Amazon UK(http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/B00004CO6D/qid=1059585899/sr=1-3/re...). Experimental Arts Intermix has tapes of his video work, http://www.eai.org There is a DVD (Region 2) of "La Jetee" and "Sans Soleil" from Amazon UK and Amazon France http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/B00009WW1R/ref=sr_aps_dvd_1_1/026-3... http://www.amazon.fr/exec/obidos/ASIN/B00008BCWQ/402-7629401-0672136 As far as summer reading goes, it's been "The Invention of Clouds", which is about Luke Howard, and his invention of the taxonomy of clouds, and "At Swim Two Birds" by Flann O'Brien which is unbeliebably hilarious, as well as pushing "narrative" into pretzels. Really? Amazon doesn't list this in the special features. As I mentioned before, the version with English narration is on Short 2: Dreams, with optional audio commentary by Gilliam. This disc also features Guy Maddin's short "Eye Like a Red Balloon", based on a painting by Odilon Redon.

I can't believe that no Marker films have been released on DVD! There's>>only the English version of La Jetee on one of the "Short" DVD magazines and his work on "Night and Fog."
I think there are a couple of things available on DVD in Europe & I'm sure that eventually a few things will turn up in North America.
- I'm almost certain "La Jetee" is included on the DVD of "12 Monkeys."> Chris Selvig
