Does anyone use kazaa to download mp3s? Now that audiogalaxy is dead, im looking into installing kazaa. Ive heard it installs spyware and other useless bundles of software into your computer. Im not clear on what spyware actually does, does anyone know? The big question really is: is Kazaa a program worth downloading? Thanks for your response -ct _________________________________________________________________ Chat with friends online, try MSN Messenger: http://messenger.msn.com
yeah, it seems to install a bunch of spyware. there's a program called "ad-aware" from lavasoft (you can find it with google) that searches out spyware, and it finds a ton when i install kazaa. when i get rid of it, kazaa won't run. the ad-aware site probably has a better definition, but i think that spyware is basically any kind of hidden software that either tracks your movements for marketing purposes or that displays ads and so forth. besides that, i've found kazaa's results to be much fewer than audiogalaxy's. with audiogalaxy, i found tons of out of print obscurities, tracks by artists with no distribution, etc. kazaa doesn't seem to have as much of that kind of thing, but maybe it'll blow-up now that audiogalaxy is no more. hope that helps, jesse On Tue, 25 Jun 2002, carlos torres wrote:

That it does. But there is an illegal "reverse-engineered" version called Kazaalite that functions the same but without the adware. I just downloaded it the other day and it seems to work fine; unfortunately I can't seem to remember where I downloaded it from.

This is true as well. While the argument has been made that the software is only as good as its user base, this wasn't only the case for Audiogalaxy -- its offline queueing, its automatic downloads, the resumption of incomplete files -- made it the best choice for me. Many of the Audiogalaxy groups have reconstituted themselves on Filetopia, so that might be worth checking out. I haven't really downloaded anything yet, but there seems like a lot of good stuff -- more so than Blubster or Limewire, or WinMX, to whose servers I just can't seem to connect.
