drove down to catch the last two sets of timberne's science friction. It was worth every mile / gallon of gas and the flat tire I got. Science friction is tim berne, craig taborn, marc ducret, and tom rainey. Together they create one sound. when the heads are done, music starts to stretch out, marc and craig blend together, tom is a pulsating telepath and tim blows a shimmer of sound over the top that comes as close as my ears have heard to a complete visual music. I have been listening to science friction since it came out a year ago, and the depth that is that record is just the beginning. For all of those in italy and spain, dont miss this group. It is very composed in sections and open and freewheeling in others. Tim breaks down the band into ones and twos quite a bit, to a great effect. The new material is branded to this group, an extention of the first set of tunes. The highlight for me was a version of manatee woman, left the audience just as surprised as the band. Walked in the protest earlier that day, jumped into the stream along side ben perowsky, jennifer charles, oren blowdow, curtis fowlkes, and roy nathansen [I believe] all playing instruments, one of the swells of great sound and vibes in the long procession of people headed downtown. We all chanted and sang and claped and made noises, a moment in the sun along side madison sq park & in front of the flatiron, curtis and roy started playing When The Saints Come Marching In, sung by all, banging on anything, the politics dropped away for me and it was just about being surrounded by people.
