I can't remember the name of the record but it is a mix of experimentations that, IMHO, works fantastically well. I remember his duetting on this record with an Indian musician. There is an alto solo on this record that is astounding.
Other Aspects?
Bingo, although like someone else noticed, Dolphy plays flute on the track with tablas (and not alto like I said). Anyway, this is a killer record! Another record with sax and tablas is: ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 159 - EXPLORATIONS: Subroto Roy Chowdhury, Steve Lacy 1/ Saxoraga (Lacy, Ray, Martin) 10:19 2/ Spontaneity (SRC, SR, PM) 11:32 3/ Explorations (SL, SRC, SR, PM) 22:33 Recorded at Tonstudio Bauer, Ludwigsburg, on April 21 and 22, 1987 Subroto Roy Chowdhury: sitar; Steve Lacy: soprano; Shibsankar Ray: tabla; Patricia Martin: tanpura. 1987 - Jazz Point (Germany), JP 1020 (LP) 1987 - Jazz Point (Germany), jp 1020 (CD) ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Patrice.
wow, that sounds fantastic! is it as great as Karuna Supreme by Ali Akbar Khan and John Handy (with Zakir Hussain)? that's another great sax & tabla album. sean Another record with sax and tablas is: ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- -- 159 - EXPLORATIONS: Subroto Roy Chowdhury, Steve Lacy 1/ Saxoraga (Lacy, Ray, Martin) 10:19 2/ Spontaneity (SRC, SR, PM) 11:32 3/ Explorations (SL, SRC, SR, PM) 22:33 Recorded at Tonstudio Bauer, Ludwigsburg, on April 21 and 22, 1987 Subroto Roy Chowdhury: sitar; Steve Lacy: soprano; Shibsankar Ray: tabla; Patricia Martin: tanpura. 1987 - Jazz Point (Germany), JP 1020 (LP) 1987 - Jazz Point (Germany), jp 1020 (CD)
