How odd, you really seem to have no clue as to American culture. There are actually a wide variety of American food cultures and regional cooking styles. A moment of actual research and thought might avoid foolish comments such as that.
What I mean is the imago America has. In Europe when people talk about foreign food, they mention for example Italian, French, Asian, African food and dishes. Nobody talks about 'American Food', and if they do so, it's always in the context of 'fast food' or 'easy food', like hamburgers, coke, spare ribs, eating a quick lunch etc. That's the way most people see American food culture. They maybe create that imago through sitcoms, movies, ... So most Europeans don't have any clue about real American food culture. And then it's odd that some Americans say that McD is there last resort in foreign countries when it comes to food, like if that's the only food they can thrust (oops). They just confirm the thoughts Europeans have about them. By the way, never mind the food isn't well known, there are other things from the USA which are far more popular and better (like music, movies, ...). Some Americans are just so proud and idle...sorry to disturb that feeling sometimes. groets, jW

Well, in this case it wasn't the Americans. -- | josephzitt@josephzitt.com http://www.josephzitt.com/ | | http://www.metatronpress.com/jzitt/ http://www.mp3.com/josephzitt/ | | == New book: Surprise Me with Beauty: the Music of Human Systems == | | Comma / Gray Code Silence: the John Cage Discussion List |
Why do people on this list always feel personally attacked. I was talking about global viewings. Sorry for not writing perfect english and not express my opinions with the right words. (indeed 'idle' has different meanings in english). We're not all that great philosophers. Someone somewhere will maybe understand what i mean. Anyway...damn the whole mcd thing, we have got 'Quick'.

Agreed, Quick is much better than McyD's. If only we had them in the states. However, I don't eat meat any more. That's a whole different issue with American (and fast food) culture. Zach

Well, the context of the conversation continued through the messages.

Yes, yes! Proud to be an idler! That's me, to a T, absolutely! AND, something I feel that NY z-listers will find interesting, at the Anthology Film Archives (taken from their print calendar): Thursday Sept. 12th Music for Harry Smith: John Zorn and Friends In honor of the magnificent restortation of Harry Smith's magnum opus "Mahagonny", John Zorn will headline a pair of shows dedicated to Smith, his films and his all-around alchemical lifestyle. The show will feature rare films by Smith, as well as interviews and documentation of the man in action. Zorn and his special guests (To Be Announced) will present new compositions and performances inspired by Smith's masterful works. If you were present at last Halloween's Kenneth Anger benefit, then you understand how special this event will be. If you missed it -now's your chance. Check out the website for details as the date approaches! http://www.anthologyfilmarchives.org Just to make clear, I'm not in any way affiliated with Anthology, besides being a lover of their programming. They are showing much of Smith's other work to coorespond with the re-release of "Mahagonny", so, lots to do in September! Nirav -- AIM: Icefactory37 OnNow- Old Man Gloom- Seminar III (yow!)
