My ex-girlfriend was really into alt-country and old rockabilly. She got me into this incredible female vocalist/guitarist named Wanda Jackson. She has a gritty voice and tough lyrics. She was definitely ahead of her time. I'm not sure what albums to suggest because I don't own any (yet). But Wanda Jackson is definitely worth checking out. The guitar playing is amazing at times, some of the stuff would surely impress Ribot or Frisell; very very creative for its time. She is not what you would expect from a female singer from the 50's/early 60's. -adam morosky _________________________________________________________________ STOP MORE SPAM with the new MSN 8 and get 2 months FREE* http://join.msn.com/?page=features/junkmail
I don't know the name of it, but once heard part of an old LP of rockabilly-ish stuff with a musical saw as the lead instrument. It had tons of reverb on it. Anyone have any idea about this? I heard it in Pittsburgh at a fine used record store there (Jerry's). I don't think Jerry had ever seen orheard it before either. I would start a label just to reissue this totally out record, that's how good it was. So, sorry for the scant and hopefully tantalizing information, but if anyone knows about this or happens across it in the future, grab it and at least make me a copy! Rob
