http://www.counterpunch.org/eno1230.html this is a pretty amusing article by brian eno describing america as a gated community. it's always encouraging to see artists speak up. i'm not asking that every artist be a eugene chadbourne (although his new protest songs are really fucking funny), but i believe that artists have a responsibility to address basic social realities (otherwise what's the point of producing art?) an album that should be included on 2002 best of lists is david cross' double-cd on sub pop, "Shut Up, You Fucking Baby." the second disc starts out with cross asking, "Has all this flag-waving bullshit finally stopped?" and continues for over an hour with an extended assault on bush, the "war against 'terrorism'", ashcroft, the catholic church, and the christian right. it's incredibly funny and very important in these times. _________________________________________________________________ MSN 8 with e-mail virus protection service: 2 months FREE* http://join.msn.com/?page=features/virus

Yeah, I was just reading Wyndham Lewis' 1930 volume _Hitler_ a couple of weeks ago (w/ chapter titles like "Adolph Hitler -- A Man of Peace" and "One Advantage in 'Race'-Notion"). Pretty responsible stuff there. -- Jim Flannery newgrange@talmanassociates.com When you can't give anything, you can also receive nothing. Through giving, you also receive. You can never stop giving.
