Didn't I just request this a few days ago? From the new Forced Exposure new release list: _____________________________________________ SUNSPOTS (ITALY): SHARROCK, SONNY: Monkey-Pockie-Boo CD (SPOT 504 CD). "An album recorded in Paris (on June 22nd, 1969) with his wife Linda plus Ben Guerin (bass) and Jacques Thollot (drums). Sonny Sharrock was one of the top avant-garde guitarists and his playing was intense and ferocious. He mixed together Jimi Hendrix and Pharoah Sanders. 'Sharrock was the first guitarist to really embrace fire music. He wanted his playing to mirror the emotional scream of the tenor saxophone' (Thurston Moore and Byron Coley). Original artwork. Gatefold sleeve. 180 gram HQ vinyl." $15.00 _____________________________________________ Of course, I'm assuming that this IS, in fact, a CD, and that the bit at the end about "180 gram HQ vinyl" means that someone at Forced Exposure recycled the blurb they'd used for the Get Back LP release and was too lazy to cut the bit at the end... Hot damn, I finally get to hear this thing! (Thanks, too, to those who reminded me that the Obscure versions of the Bryars pieces had indeed already been reissued...) Dusty Groove has this as well. Wonder if the entire BYG catalog will eventually appear? ----------------------------- Violinist Bauer-Lechner on Mahler: "The first thing he composed on paper at the age of six was a polka, to which he added a funeral march as an introduction." I bought the initial BYG batch Nos. 1-4 (Art Ensemble, Cherry, Sun Ra, Shepp) on British Charly, only to see them all come out not much later at midprice on Fuel 2000. Since then, I figured I'd just wait and buy those as they appeared; there have only been two new one since then, if I'm not mistaken: No. 5, Dewey Redman's 'Tarik' and No. 6, Gato Barbieri/Abdullah Ibrahim 'Hamba Khale.' In this case, however, I don't think I'm going to pass this one up under the assumption that a domestic midprice version will reward my patience. I'd rather spend a few extra dollars, just to be sure. And I'm keeping a sharp eye out for more BYG Art Ensemble, from this or any other source. Well, yeah, there's that one, too. But that's an album I've heard *about* for a long time without any real notion of what it sounds like. It's got a stunning lineup and the price is certainly right, but would anyone care to actually recommend it?
