He kept mentioning how he is misunderstood by the press and how major labels want to make money and all these stories.
Oh, really? Did he? ;-)
After the concert I was wondering, what is he talking about? He reunites his super group 10 years after they stopped playing, they play big festivals, obviously for big money. Then they present a greatest hit show and everyone is happy. Is that not a very "major" thing to do? where is the challenge? Dont get me wrong, I loved it, but i also needed an extra thrill from them.
Yes, it's funny. When Naked City first stopped playing Zorn made it very clear that he was tired of being a kind of "greatest hits" group with people requesting their favorites and so on. That's why I'd love to hear if there is any "official" explanation why they began playing again. I mean, if this was just a warm up thing for a new record of new material, I'd think it's pretty cool, but I doubt it. What I heard was that Tzadik is in big financial problems and Zorns old friends said they would help him out. First with the special Mori, Zorn, Patton limited disc, but apparantly that didn't sell well. As far as I remember, somebody said that Frisell actually didn't want to do it. Frith said on his mailing list some years ago, that he didn't think Naked City would ever play again, but that he would love to play with Baron again, so... _________________________________________________________________ Help STOP SPAM with the new MSN 8 and get 2 months FREE* http://join.msn.com/?page=features/junkmail
Hi,
Frith said on his mailing list some years ago, that he didn't think Naked City would ever play again, but that he would love to play with Baron again, so...
Frith actually seemed pretty excited about it, specially playing with Zorn again. His words were "it's special", which summarizes their ongoing collaboration. I guess it was also satisfying for him to pick up bass again, since that was one of the highlights of the Rova anniversary performances in SF some months ago. With regards to Zorn's computer music, he might have made the story up, but that just goes to confirm that "Music From the Hermetic Theater" is not his most appealing work. I personally find those pieces pretty gratuitous. Best, Efrén del Valle n.p: Steve Reich "Music for 18 Musicians" ___________________________________________________ Yahoo!
