i'm surprised no one's had a single good word to say about 'odelay'. i'm not a huge beck fan, but i think it's by far his best album. way, way better in my estimation than the faux-lugubrious 'sea change' or the insufferable prince-lite 'midnite vultures'. -----Original Message----- From: Toby Dodds [mailto:toby@dodds.org] Sent: Thursday, November 13, 2003 5:14 PM To: zorn-list@mailman.xmission.com Subject: Re: beck (as nick drake) (Joseph Zitt) Sea Change is one of my favorite listens these days. The Nigel Goodrich production is Spectoresque, beautiful string arrangements and old school tektronics are brilliantly combined. There is definitely a spirit to the record that reminds me of Apple studio projects like Nicky Hopkins's Tin Man Was a Dreamer or George Harrison's All Things Must Pass. I think it's probably my favorite Beck effort - but I am not a big fan of his white funk schtick. Ditto on most of what was said about Beck. Speaking about Beck, I'm surprised no one mentioned the Flaming Lips. I'm just delving into their catalogue and think it's really something. Zach
i'm all into Zaireeka myself these days, even though i only have one CD player, heh. talk about stripping your own music - that guts! there's one track in there with some keyboard horns and strings which proves that these guys could write a great symphony if they wanted! hats of to Wayne Coyne & Co. -k Zachary Steiner <zsteiner@butler.edu> wrote: Ditto on most of what was said about Beck.
