Patton on the new Fantomas
Hi, Here's an extract of a Mike Patton interview appeared here: http://filter-mag.com/news/interior.1460.html "I understand thereÂs another Fantomas record on its way within the next year. What can we expect? The next one is called Suspended Animation and itÂs like a really playful, upbeat childrenÂs record. ItÂs light and fun, almost goofy, but fast moving, quick changing and uses a lot of cartoon sounds and effects. I use a lot of musical toys on the record. Again, when we play that stuff live weÂll have a whole other set up. ItÂll look like a romper room on stage with a trampoline. To me, logically, we should make a record thatÂs really happy-go-lucky and light on its feet after a record like this, which is like fucking anger. This recordÂs a nightmare. I know itÂs a thick pill to swallow. The next one wonÂt be. And this great artist, Yoshitomo Nara, did all the drawings and artwork for itÂcute Japanese art. ItÂll be a funny looking package." Most notoriously the cover art for Shonen Knife's Happy Hour, Jim Black's Splay and Matthew Sweet's Kimi Ga Suki.
The artist Patton mentions - Yoshitomo Nara - also did the artwork for Jim Black's Alasnoaxis album, 'Splay' (on Winter&Winter)... -whit On Thu, 15 Jul 2004, Efrén del Valle wrote:
