Hi, The address is actually: http://www.tonicnyc.com I was surprised to see that the new Painkiller lineup includes Hamid Drake behind the drumkit. I've heard/listened to him in very different environments but I'm really curious about what he'll do with Zorn and Laswell. I hope someone tapes those concerts but I suspect Tzadik will do something about it. Best, Efrén del Valle

Hi, --- Andrew Mortensen <amfrequencies@bigpond.com> escribió: > can someone tell me what els Hamid Drake has done? Whenever you see a William Parker album, check the drummer and he'll probably be Drake. He's also played with Jeemel Moondoc, Roy Campbell, Borah Bergman, Ken Vandermark, Peter Brötzmann and I recently saw him with David Murray in a Calypso/Reggae project.
what type of drummer?
Considering the names listed above, I should say that he's definitely one of the most prolific and versatile drummers around. Depending on the project, he can sound more personal or remain diluted with the environment he must get adapted to (David Murray's project is a good example). He's some middle-ground between free-jazz, rock and funk drumming, really contundent, and he seems really influenced by African percussion -and therefore, by 60's free drummers like Milford Graves or Rashied Ali. If you'd like to check the vast range of his possibilities, "Piercing the Veil" (AUM Fidelity) in duo with William Parker is a good start. It's basically a jazz/world-music album and both musicians play any instruments you can imagine.
