Whilst trying to avoid doing some work I put a list on Amazon.co.uk of 'Interesting Female singer-songwriters from Northern Europe who weren't Bjork'. I chose: Sidsel Endresen Stina Nordenstam Anja Garbarek Solex Susanne Abbuehl Laub I have to say I chose these for the music and not specifically for their voices. As for a PJ Harvey recommendation I still love her first 'Dry' for its rawness, energy and brilliant drumming by Rob Ellis. Bebel Gilberto is really good. I think Lauryn Hill's first disc is Godhead. Somme of the vocals on the Slits records (post-Palmolive) are really strange. And let us not forget Siouxsie. skip h
