heya #1. Has anyone ever seen anywhere the actual sample credits that have been used on any of the Praxis albums? or who did the sampling? I just brought this up now, because I'm listening to Malevolent Creations "The Ten Commandments" & just remembered they sampled quite a few parts of it on "Sacrifist". Then I remembered on "Transmutation" they also sampled Entombed, something from "Clandestine" & Morbid Angel's "Immortal Rites" & Napalm Death too I think. Also I've heard some parts on TV, like that percussion groove on an ad here in Oz & also waiting for the train, I saw an ad for something about & it was one of the loops from a groove tune on "Sacrifist"... so I'm wondering who does the sampling? Laswell? Buckethead? I just think it's very interesting to hear some death metal sampled & used the way they do, especially on "Transmutation" #2. what was the last thing Zorn & Laswell did? Praxis gig? "IAO"? #3. also, I'd like to see Mike Patton do some more work with Laswell, I liked the track "IAO".... Andrew n.p: Malevolent Creations - "The Ten Commandments"
Hi,
#2. what was the last thing Zorn & Laswell did? Praxis gig? "IAO"?
I guess it was the Painkiller show in last Sept. Zorn fest, which also included Patton. And Hamid Drake instead of Harris on drums while we're listing credits. I wasn't there but heard from a friend that the drummer shift allowed Laswell to take the dub elements of Painkiller a lot further while Patton's addition helped keep the aggressive edge from being lost. -Richard ===== ==== "Yesterday is history. 1. In case someone didn't know, Drake is a veteran of a number of reggae and dub bands in Chicago, which helps explain Richard's comment quoted above. Apologies if this has already been mentioned... 2. Speaking of Laswell and credits, isn't there a track off of Material's 'Hallucination Engine' that basically copies the bass/drum/guitar rhythm from Billy Cobham's 'red baron' off of Spectrum? I searched everywhere in the liner notes but couldn't find an acknowledgment. -whit

YES!!! it's the one with william s. burroughs: words of advice for young people i actually played it on my radio show a week or so ago (from the 12"), and went running around the studio racking my brain as to what that sample was. i only identified it as billy cobham after i missed the segue. thanks whit! sean

I'm pretty sure that it's not copying, just sampling. the sound is identical mg
