I'll bet you large dollars, if Gang Of 4 reunited tomorrow, they'd be playing venues the size of the Fillmore.
Well, maybe, if you insured that Dave Allen and Hugo Burnham were involved and the band was going to play lots of "old hits." The reunions in '91 and '95, both of which featured Jon King and Andy Gill, and both of which produced eminently respectable albums ('Mall' and 'Shrinkwrapped,' respectively). The second reunion even coincided with the Infinite Zero reissues of 'Entertainment' and 'Solid Gold.' And both reunions petered out almost immediately. The latter, if I remember correctly, had trouble filling small clubs. Then again, I suppose it *is* nearly 10 years later, and half the bands in Williamsburg sound like Gang of Four (the other half are Joy Division)... I think '95 was too soon. And I think Dave and Hugo would have to be the rhythm section (tho, when I saw them in 1981 with Sara Lee, it emphatically DID NOT SUCK). And you're damn right it would have to be the old hits. The X reunions will, for instance, likely continue to pay real well -- until somebody brings a new song to a rehearsal, and record deal is procured, and etc. sh
