Hi,
Other SY records, randomly:
"NYC ghosts and flowers" - Absolutely awful. The band really tried to be something they were not, instead of being themselves. Bad poetry over bad, "trying too hard" music makes this a bad record.
That sounds a bit dogmatic. Maybe throwing some "I thinks" there would have been much better. Quite unusually, SY have never, EVER, released an "awful" record, even not close to "average"... I think.
"Dirty" and "Goo"- easily the band's most accessible records, and most "normal" and mundane sounding. Some of the songs are great ("theresa's sound world", "my friend goo"), but both albums have that "Nevermind" esque gloss and sheen over them. Not completely inessential, but near the bottom.
"Goo" is certainly not their best, and your description of "NYC Ghosts & Flowers" would fit much better into this one, specially when you said "tried to be something they were not". "Goo" is certainly overproduced and in some way, lazy, but still the songs are very good.
"A Thousand Leaves" - a transitional album between "washing machine" and the more recent, modern-improv oriented material like the SYR series. Not bad, but ultimately forgettable. Check the downtempo Phish-jam of "hits of sunshine."
Again, I'd give it one more try. Not their best album, that's for sure, but absolutely nothing "transitional". Best, Efrén del Valle ___________________________________________________ Yahoo! Messenger - Nueva versión GRATIS Super Webcam, voz, caritas animadas, y más... http://messenger.yahoo.es
