I just got a copy of "Brilliant Circles," the Stanley Cowell disc featuring Woody Shaw, among others. I'm really enjoying it and wonder if anyone out there can recommend any other Shaw or Cowell recordings. I have a lot of discs that feature Shaw as a sideman, but this is my only Cowell and I love his playing. Thanks, Tom ______________________________________________________ Discs I'm listening to at work: Zorn/Frisell/Patton -- News for Lulu Zorn/Frisell/Patton -- More News for Lulu Masada -- Live at Tonic Kronos Quartet -- Nuevo Kronos Quartet -- Terry Riley, Requiem for Adam

I've always been a fan of Shaw's Columbia records, _Rosewood_ and _Woody III_ being standouts. His Muse recordings are also excellent, such as _The Moontrane_ or _Imagination_. Basically, for me, anything that has his original compositions is of interest, anything post-Wynton when he started to play standards is less interesting to me... philz ==================================================================== Squidco The Squid's Ear http://www.squidco.com/ http://www.squidsear.com/ on sale: Recommended Records Back Catalog Sale just in: Chris Cutler Solo; Area Box set; Loose Fur; Keiji Haino; Les Poules; Frith/Dermome/Tanguay/Boisen; Bob Ostertag ====================================================================
I'm a big fan of CASSANDRITE and LOVE DANCE. Actually, any Woody with Joe Henderson works for me. They reallly inspired each other. skip h np: Phil Spector, BACK TO MONO box on 2/6/03 8:21 PM, zampino at zampino@squidco.com wrote:

Larry Young's "Unity" has both Shaw and Henderson. great record!
well, that's kind of the best record for larry, joe and woody, and even arguably elvin (although i may lean towards roland kirk's RIP, RIG & PANIC as elvin's best). sh
