As we've discussed sometime ago on the list, Joey Baron's solo music is not really avantgardish, but much much more a Philadelphia jazzy groove thing than you would expect from listening to his work with Zorn. Execution level lies very high, the Killer Joey band lies along the same lines as Joey's Down Home Band, Tony Sherr plays live in both groups. That says it all: Sherr makes the music's rhythms sound solid and earthly. Killer Joey has a fairly light, but always swinging emphasis on guitars, and is in my memory a tad less bluesy than the Down Home Band. Brad Shepik latest cd on Knitting Factory coincides with the soulful rhythm guitarparts he also plays with Killer Joey: no turkish or balkan influences here. Hope this helps Remco
