* "Julian" <germ@iinet.net.au>:
I'm looking for some interesting female vocalists for a singing friend of mine, for the moment I'm looking more in the 'interesting pop' vein (Bjork, Laurie Anderson) than moving into really experimental or modern
classical stuff. Any recommendations?
Late as always (digest), but some of these might work (inpo): Anja Garbarek Emiliana Torrini (Icelandic/Italian, sim. to Björk) Sussan Deyhim Haco (maybe too out) Tujiko Noriko (Mego) Edda dell'Orso (on Morricone's 60's/70's work) Alison Goldfrapp (a modern Edda?) Liz Fraser (Cocteau Twins/Massive Attack) Lisa Gerrard (Dead Can Dance/solo) Jennifer Charles (Elysian Fields/Lovage) Sandy Dillon Erykah Badu (Billie Holiday-ish) Diamanda Galas Stina Nordenstam Brigitte Fontaine (60's/70's) Gal Costa (60's/early 70's) Nina Miranda (Smoke City) Iva Bittova Liliput/Kleenex gals Rosie Cuckston (Pram) Antye Greie-Fuchs (Laub/solo) Roisin Murphy (Moloko) Sidsel Endresen (ECM/Jazzland) Mari Boine (early + new Jazzland) Be Good Tanyas (trio) Kazu Makino (Blonde Redhead) Tara Jane O'Neil (Retsin/Sonora Pine/solo) etc. etc.
Any recommendations for PJ Harvey albums?
Best IMHO are "To Bring You My Love" & "Rid Of Me"... maybe also "Is This Desire?". "Dry" is earlier, and "Stories From The City..." is the last LP. All have something to like. -Patrick NP: Ty - "Awkward"
