Re: Relaxing Kang, Ryuichi Ruins,Bendian's Mahavishnu
Hi,
In terms of relaxing music my choice is Eyvind Kang's latest "Live Low to the Earth, in the Iron Age".
Very curious about this one! How does it compare to his other work?
Its amazing how after all those years and several releases Tatsuya >Yoshida has mantained the Ruins Zeuhl-Prog/Grindcore aesthetic alive >and fresh.
I agree. How many Ruins songs has he composed by now? 2-300 at least, and they are all great. Amazing how much he can make out of just drums, bass and voice ripping off Magma and punk ;-)
To round this off, wouldn't mind some day seeing Eyvind doing >Mahavishnu covers with the Ruins. That would be sweet.
Yes, I'd love to see Kang play with Ruins! Actually, he already did, since Ruins + Kang + Sun City Girls did a jam session together at one point, but a real collaboration would be great. On the new Ruins album there is als a cover of a old Shankar piece (!!), which is great, especially live. Kang would fit perfectly in that piece!! _________________________________________________________________ STOP MORE SPAM with the new MSN 8 and get 2 months FREE* http://join.msn.com/?page=features/junkmail
"Live Low" is more cohesive in sound compared to his previous releases. Perhaps closer to the "Story of Iceland" in terms of flow but with more of an Oriental/Indian feel to it that remains throughout the album instead of the constant crisscrossing of genres that appeared in his early Tzadik works. This one feels like it comes more directly from the heart. Not as cerebral or arranged as the other ones. It's just him (even though it credits the Neti-Neti band) opening up to beauty and letting his sound escalate to a heavenly space. It reminds me in feel of some of Popul Vuh's early work and on the third track (which I like but would've left it out) sounds like a Sun City Girls electric raga (which leads many to believe that the Neti-Neti band are Sun City Girls but it's just Eyvind playing gtr-bass-drums.). The rest of the album has this wonderful serene build up consisting mainly of subtle touches of guitar, bass, dreamy recorders and glorious viola runs . Beautifuly recorded by Randall Dunn at Aleph. Angelic. Talking about angelic, when is Angelica ever going to release Eyvind's commisioned work for their festival from a few years back? It's beautiful material that he worked on for a long time, all completed and sitting somewhere in Italy waiting to be released. I am aware of the Sun City Ruins w. Kang session beause I was there and videotaped it. Superb mayhem of crazed gamelan, vocal interplay, multipercussion onslaught, ending up with an Ayleresque lullaby pummelled by Kang. Wished they released the whole thing. Parts of it can be found on Sun City Girls "Box of Chameleons" and "Dulce". Arthur Gadney <a_gadney@hotmail.com> wrote:Hi,
