Oh, yeah--here's another disappointment: Steve Reich's _The Cave_, which starts strong and then very quickly reveals itself as an experiment that just doesn't work, but which he doggedly keeps hammering into the ground.
Couldn't this describe ANY Steve Reich album? Although I do have to admit, I like Different Trains a lot. Dale.

It sure don't describe TEHILLIM, which I really love for a million reasons all at once AND at different times. First ECM record ever bought, too. sh

I'm going to have to check this one out. I'm really fond of another of his ECM discs, _Music for a Large Ensemble_ (with "Violin Phase" and...another piece I like but can't recall the name of.) I used to get it out of the library before someone decided to use it for a drink coaster or to shore up a wobbly table or something. Around the time of _The Cave_, I had a brief conversation with Reich in which he said that he didn't like "Large Ensemble" at all, and thought it was one of his "lesser works." But I have to disagree, and if I ever see a copy of it again, I'm buying that sucker. -- Maurice Rickard http://mauricerickard.com/
