I totally disagree, I think Roxy Music is one of the great consistant bands. One can argue forever if the later albums are better than the first three -but basically Bryan Ferry is one fantastic artist. His last solo album 'Frantic' is up there with his early stuff. The guitar player you are hearing is Phil Manzanera (is that the correct spelling?). He was and still is amazing. Ciao, -- Tosh Berman TamTam Books http://www.tamtambooks.com

He really shines on Cale's Island recordings. I never understood Eno's contributions to that. Was it more an implicit influence rather than overt? Zach
well, i probably was a bit harsh & jumping the gun when I said "but what they became is shit....", but I'm just thinking of that hit song - shit, forget the name now... :) -----Original Message----- From: zorn-list-bounces+andrewm=mail.selc.com.au@mailman.xmission.com [mailto:zorn-list-bounces+andrewm=mail.selc.com.au@mailman.xmission.com] On Behalf Of Tosh Sent: Tuesday, 16 December 2003 3:41 PM To: zorn-list@mailman.xmission.com Subject: Roxy Music I totally disagree, I think Roxy Music is one of the great consistant bands. avalon? that stuff is a bit too smooth for me (though not quite shit). i thought it was pretty evident on the reunion tour (and i think i read in a manzanera interview) that the band liked playing the earlier, edgier material a bit more, and avalon and oh yeah and jealous guy were more tossed in as crowd pleasers (and the crowd was pretty clearly split along those lines too)
