My dream is to see Eyvind Kang / Timothy Young / Skerik / Earl Harvin and Shahzad Ismaily cover the first two songs on Mahavishnu Orchestra's "Visions of the Emerald Beyond". That, I think would be the shit! And I second the motion that Eyvind's "Live Low" album is the BEST album of 2002. Schuller

In terms of relaxing music my choice is Eyvind Kang's latest "Live Low to the Earth, in the Iron Age". Lifts me up to the heavens, totally transcendental. Possibly my choice for best of 2002. Watching him and the Neti-Neti band perform this live in San Francisco opening for Sun City Girls was sublime, dreamlike. In terms of the Ruins my choices are "Burning Stone" and "Graviyaunosch". These for me defined the Ruins sound. Ryuichi Masuda basslines had a more aggresive vibrant feel. Hisashi is a monster on bass too but the material in those two releases is classic Ruins for me. Its amazing how after all those years and several releases Tatsuya Yoshida has mantained the Ruins Zeuhl-Prog/Grindcore aesthetic alive and fresh. Haven't heard the new one yet. I can't wait to hear their Mahavishnu medley which I've been told was ment to be part of a Mahavishnu tribute to be released by Obtuse Mule, but Ruins ended up being the only ones among those commissioned who were able to submit a Mahavishnu cover, more so a medley. In that note, while in New York last month, I was able to catch Greg Bendian's Mahavishnu Project. They were unreal, bringing some of their own to a material I would never expect to see perform live. Bendian's got the Billy Cobham power drumming so down, it's hard to believe that he is the same free jazz drummer I have seen with Cecil Taylor, etc. To round this off, wouldn't mind some day seeing Eyvind doing Mahavishnu covers with the Ruins. That would be sweet.
