Hi, Sad to say this but the Fantomas track sounds just like the "usual Patton cliches". "Filmworks XIV" sounds great but, as one might expect, it's more of the same. I still have to write a formal review but these are some first impressions summarized: Cons: No "expect the unexpected", it doesn't really sound like Martin Denny as promised, Ribot is a bit mroe restrained than usual, certain motifs are becoming quite recurrent in Zorn's latest works. Pros: The compositions sound great, the performance is impeccable, Kenny Wollesen!, the arrangements are really beautiful, the vocals (withouth lyrics) fit in very well, the lineup seems the perfect choice as usual, the melancholic mood throughout, the superb recording quality as always. All in all, if you like Zorn's latest albums, this is even better than the previous Filmworks, imho, so you'll probably get your money's worth. I'd defintely say BUY IT!! AS to "The Unknown Masada", I have just listened to some bits but I still think that one of Zorn's greatest strengths is his skills to choose those who surround him and I prefer his regular guys to perform his music. I didn't enjoy "Voices in the Wilderness" that much and I think this won't sound much better to me. But, of course, just an opinion! Best, Efrén del Valle

That sounds like a good idea! It will be nice to hear something from them without the usual PAtton cliches getting in the way for once ...
