Hello, a little off topic here, but wondering if someone could help. I just got a hard drive, and I'm planning to transfer some cds onto it. I was wondering if there is a better quality compression format than mp3s. Thanks in advance, Serge _________________________________________________________________ Add photos to your messages with MSN 8. Get 2 months FREE*. http://join.msn.com/?page=features/featuredemail

Have you considered the .ogg format? http://www.vorbis.com/ Better compression than .mp3s (vbr quality 2 or 3 does the job) and better sound. The compression algorithm is an open standard, and many of the necessary applications are free. -- Maurice Rickard http://mauricerickard.com/

Ogg is nice sounding but you cant play it outside your PC
That's technically true right now, but not for long: http://www.xiph.org/ogg/vorbis/portables.html -- Maurice Rickard http://mauricerickard.com/
to be compabible to different players I would stay with mpe ,but with a compression rate of 250 or even 320 or variable.Good encoders allow to change the compression rate FK
