Review, Irving Stone Tribute at Tonic 7/5/03
Dear all: I've written an extremely long review of the Zorn-organized tribute to Irving Stone, a longtime supporter of the Downtown and Vision Fest scenes, that took place all day this past Saturday at Tonic. I decided that it was far too long to e-mail, so instead I'll just provide a pointer to the website. Participants in the 10-hour event included Zorn and Ikue Mori, Tim Berne, Charles Gayle, William Parker's Little Huey Orchestra, Butch Morris and countless others. The tribute was recorded for a forthcoming double CD release on Tzadik, but you can read all about it here: http://www.jazzcornertalk.com/speakeasy/showthread.php?s=&threadid=1641 Steve Smith ssmith36@sprynet.com

Very nice review, Steve. I didn't know who Stone was but it sounds like he had quite an impact on the scene.
great review, makes me really nostalgic for tonic. It did feel like family on weeknites I would come in & see familiar faces, even if I never said anything to anyone, just came for the music, we were all there for the same reason, and there was irving and stephanie sitting near the front. I would nod and smile at the as they came and went, my reaction was similar to tim's at first, they must be someones parents. I think that steve ended up setting me straight one nite. Not that I didnt have a feeling about them, every time I saw them out I got blown away by some music that was happening, I began to look for them everytime I showed up. jt __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!?
